A little more about Sabrina's history and what brought her to where she is today.
I had my first child in 1992. That birth was a failed induction as the progress was slow and I ended up with a cesarean section birth. I was told I had CPD which stands for cephalopelvic disproportion. A fancy word that means your pelvis is too small to birth naturally. 4 years later I went on to naturally birth my second baby who was more than 2 lbs larger than her big brother.
I chose to breastfeed all of my children, even the very first one. That was a challenge because I had not known a single person who had ever nursed their baby, no one in my family on any side breastfed, I knew no woman who did so and we did not have the internet to go to for support and information. I was determined to do what was best for my child.
I went on to have 2 more children in the hospital. I then met a woman who had home births and that intrigued me and so I began exploring that option. With my fifth baby I did have an out of hospital birth and that changed my life forever. I knew within one hour of birthing her into water that I would be a midwife one day becuase I wanted all women to know that natural physiological birth is possible!! I went on to have a few more children.
Every pregnancy and birth were times of great self awareness and understanding more about myself and my body. When the time was right I began pursuing midwifery and spent 4 years in schooling and training under the supervision of other midwives to learn the art of midwifery. Not only did I learn the deeper lessons of intuition and trust of a beautifully designed process but I also learned all the medical side of keeping women and babies healthy and safe all through the pregnancy, during the birth and how to help them get a great start after the birth. My passion was to serve women outside of the hospital as that was where I felt most empowered and blessed by my experience.
I sat for my boards and was an independent legal midwife ready to take on my own clients in my own practice in January of 2017. I have taken my own wisdom as a woman who has had many pregnancies and deliveries to bless so many other women. My practice very quickly grew to max out what I, as one person, can do within 2 years. My reputation is extremely positive in my local community. People know of me whom I have never met because the word has spread about what I have done for women, babies and their families. I have been serving women in the ways I would love to be served and they have come to greatly appreciate what I have brought to them. I am extremely knowledgeable in helping women solve typical pregnancy difficulties that their OBs tell them is unsolvable until after delivery.
I helped prepare over 800 women to birth in their own power without the assistance of drugs of any kind. I managed every one of those births in the homes of those women or in my birth center. I inspire women to step into their untapped power and they have overcome many complicated health histories simply by working with me. I absolutely love what I do and find great joy investing in the women and families who trust me to care for them. I also want to share that 4 of 8 my children have already had children of their own and they have all chosen to birth at home with me being their midwife.
This is the highest honor I could ever pray for. So, I have 8 grandchildren who have all been born at home. I also have a 9th grandchild but he came prematurely and we went to the hospital for his birth. I am utterly blessed beyond measure and am so thankful for the wonderful life I have lived. I love midwifery and helping families but my family is and will always be my greatest treasure and accomplishment.
